Ice Yachts, Lake Monona, Madison, Wis.
Here’s something you don’t typically see. Ice Yachts! It’s quite a rare occasion to get the ideal ice conditions for this wind powered sport but if that ice surface was smooth the ride would’ve been very fast! Folklore has it that the world’s speed record (143 mph) was set on Lake Winnebago, Wis. I don’t doubt ice yachts could have reached unbelievable speeds. I remember those rare days in the early winter where there was several continuous days of freezing cold temps with no wind and the surface of my hometown lake was frozen as smooth and clear as glass. My dad and I went out skating on the lake at that time and it was an amazing experience. I’ve seen land yachts easily reach 65mph+ on Ivanpah Dry Lake so I’m sure the ice yachts could have matched and exceeded that speed on a very windy day with the boost of a massive gust. I wonder if there were any records kept by an ice sailing club of Lake Monona. It’s likely that the ice yachts in this picture are those of Fauerbach Brewery.

Hello Eddie:
Thought I would send you a card and let you know that we had George here for Thanksgiving and we had a good time. They went back today. Love from all to all.

Here’s a building with a striking appearance. It’s still there at the corner of Park and Langdon. I like the message written on the back.

Hello Eddie:
Do you boys go fishing. Pa was down this morning and got two. Tell your Ma to be sure and save some of that tea when it is in blossom. Regards from all.
